New Maersk Tankers solution to digitalise pre-fixture process
Feature
Across the maritime industry, digitalisation is increasingly used to boost vessel efficiency and operations, and make businesses run smoother.
This is very much the case at Maersk Tankers, where the Digital and Chartering team have now created a new Vessel Dashboard within their in-house digital solution, VesselTruth. The Vessel Dashboard is a one-stop shop for all information needed to fix Maersk Tankers’ pool vessels trading in the spot market.
“In order to secure a cargo for a ship, you need to go through a comprehensive pre-fixture process to ensure your vessel is compatible with the specific cargo requirements. The cargo owner usually provides a list of information needed to clear the vessel, including but not limited to technical specifications, cargo- and trading history, and compliance requirements,” explains Christina Legarth-Lund from Maersk Tankers’ Chartering team.
“Collecting the right information and collecting it fast can effectively mean whether or not we secure important business for our partners’ vessels.”
Until recently, the information needed to clear a vessel was spread across different internal and external functions as well as several systems. Now, the new Vessel Dashboard collects, verifies, and maintains all the information in a comprehensive, easy-to-navigate platform.
“By creating this one-stop shop of vessel information, we are simplifying the pre-fixture process, making it easier for our charterers to secure the right cargo for the right ship and, ultimately, improving the experience of the shipowners in our pools and our cargo customers.”
Maersk Tankers launched the first version of VesselTruth in the spring of 2021, with the aim of creating a single source of vessel information. It also includes an Onboarding module, with which shipowners onboard their vessels to Maersk Tankers’ pools in a few clicks using one central database.
VesselTruth is just one example of Maersk Tankers’ extensive use of data and digital solutions to improve the efficiency and utilisation of the global fleet under its management to improve earnings and reduce emissions.
